Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) is a national system to identify workplace hazardous materials and provide safety information pertaining to them. Workers have the right to know what hazards they are dealing with and how to protect themselves from illness and injury.
The purpose of this comprehensive training program is to increase the basic knowledge and understanding of the concepts of WHMIS.
COURSE CONTENT
- Intent of WHMIS legislation and legal responsibilities
- Detailed examination of the 6 classifications of controlled products
- Identify workplace hazardous materials through WHMIS symbols and labels
- Understand Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs) with operational relevancy
- Recognize common hazards, routes of entry and harmful effects of hazardous materials
- Identify various controls required to eliminate/reduce/prevent harmful exposures
- Identify typical emergency procedures to use in response to exposure and accidental release
- Interactive exercises, participant review and assessment
This program is a generic overview of WHMIS. Employers must provide additional WHMIS training tailored to the specific materials workers may encounter. WHMIS should be reviewed annually.
DURATION & LOCATION
Two and a half (2.5) hour classroom program at your location. Includes certificate of completion for each participant.
